Frequently Asked Questions

Does Tinseltown actually subscribe or unsubscribe from streaming services?

No, Tinseltown can’t actually make changes to your service subscriptions. (You’ll need to go directly to the service’s site or app in order to do that.) You tell Tinseltown which services you subscribe to so that it can tell you which shows and movies are available to stream.

Can I hide streaming services I’m not interested in? What happens if I do?

Yes! For instance, you might see some older services in the service list that don’t really make sense anymore, but are hanging around for legacy reasons. (For example, HBO Max is still listed, even though the service is now just called Max.) If you go to Services > Manage Streaming Services and long-press on a service, you’ll get an option to hide it. You can make hidden services visible in the list by tapping the “…” button in the upper right.

When a service is hidden, it won’t appear by default in the list of places you can watch shows and movies.

Why does Tinseltown offer a subscription?

Keeping an app up and running requires more than just the initial development work. Tinseltown has to be maintained in order to work with new versions of iOS, new devices, and keep up with changes in the APIs that provide data to the app. I also hope to add more features over time! Ongoing revenue helps cover the costs of that time and effort. Ads can be a part of that, and subscriptions offer a way to enjoy the app without ads and still help support continued development.
